Southpaw Defeats Arch-Rival The People 5-4
Shaky Pitching In 7th But Lefties Hold On For the Win
-Keith Olberman
NBC Sports.com
The Southpaw Lefties defeated their arch rival's the People this past Thursday in Brooklyn's Prospect Park. Left fielder Matty "Babes" Roff sealed the 5-4 victory by running down a shot into deep left-center and also gunned out a greedy People runner at second trying to stretch a single into a double earlier in the game. "What can I say, I'm awesome" said Roff after the game, "(Pat) Fondiller's lucky he has me out there 'cause he sucks!" he added without even remotely a hint of sarcasm. "Roff's right, I suck!" said Fondiller who loaded the bases in the game's final frame and walked in the People's 4th run before giving up a long drive that easily could have been a game ending grand slam, the very drive that Roff ran down to save the game. "but Roff's a douche!" Fondiller went on to say.
The victory lifted Southpaw to a 5-4 victory and the team now stands at 4-3 on the year, rebounding from the 35-1 ass whooping at the hands of the Renegades on July 4th weekend. When asked to comment on his team's victory, Southpaw's manager Patty "Dooks" Fondiller" (no relation to pitcher Pat Fondiller) said "We lost to the Renegades 35-1, there is no way out of this doghouse!"

Southpaw's Murray Out For Season
-Associated Press
Southpaw's star right-center fielder and cleanup hitter Rio Murray sustained a grade 3 ankle injury and will miss the rest of the season. The grim news came just as Southpaw was reeling from a 35-1 loss to the arch rival Renegades. Manager Patty "Dooks" Fondiller said "This is a real blow for us, Rio was just coming into his own and he will be missed. We'll just have to make due with what we got now and hope we get him back for the playoffs" he Added.
Murray joins fellow Lefty Chad Casey on the 'Out for the season' list as Casey informed team officials last week that he will be "Out of town" for the remainder of the year. Favored to dominate the Zen League this year Southpaw has put up a sub-par 4-3 record and hope to close out the regular season on a winning note.

STRIKE!!!
14/18th's of Southpaw Squad Refuse to Show on Friday Before Holiday Weekend.
-John Heyman
WFAN FM 660 NYC
Lefties fall 35-1 to Renegades, Drop to 3-3.
In an unprecedented action this past Friday, before the 4th of July holiday also known as Independance Day, the majority of Southpaw Softball's players initiated a work stopage and failed to show for the team's Friday night match against the Renegades. A representitive for the player's union cited "the ridiculousness of the league's scheduling" and said, on condition of anonymity, that (he) " just can't in good concience allow my players to play and overexert themselves the day before a major drinking holiday". One player was overheard saying "Softball on a Friday night? Yeah right! Fuck that, I have some serious partying to do this weekend bro!"
The four Lefty regulars who showed up tried to make the best of it, scouring the park for replacement "scab" players, so that the team would not have to take an automatic forfeit. Still, the team was seriously handicapped. Before the game Southpaw acquired the services of home plate umpire John Smith at first base and a twelve year old hispanic girl named Angelis (or something like that) in right. The team's regular catcher Dominque moved to left field while a local door guy, Johnny "Angel" Jones, rumbled and lumbered about in center field. A cripple claiming to be Mikey Palms manned third and Dominique's girlfriend, Ruth "Barefoot" Gilwit , filled in (albeit, suprisingly ably) behind the plate. But, in perhaps the day's toughest lesson, Southpaw's regular right fielder, Chris Overton, learned that playing short stop on twelve bong hits is not quite the same as playing right field on twelve bong hits.
It was ugly.
The ever classy Renegades held no quarter, continually pounding opposite field shots into the unoccupied hole between Smith at first and Overton at short, apparently wanting to see if the twelve year old female "scab" in right could handle playing with a bunch of real men. "I couldn't throw the ball far enough inside to get them to pull it" said SP pitcher Pat Fondiller, who ineptly gave up all 35 runs, " even her own father tried his damndest to hit it at her... hard". The game was called after 5 innings at 35-1 in favor of the Renegades who collectively took great pride at the all-out drubbing they inflicted on Southpaw. It was the worst loss in the storied history of the Southpaw franchise. When reached outside of his home for comment, Southpaw's visibly scathing manager Patty "Dooks" Fondiller (no relation to SP pitcher Pat Fondiller) issued a couple of rare statements. "I'm getting a little fucking tired of these prima donnas! Are we a TEAM or a buncha fucking pussy-ass fucking party boys" he said of his own striking players and then added: "The Renegades, they're a buncha fucking tools, they'll get their's real soon, fucking pricks!"

Southpaw Player Mysteriously Vanishes, Then, Reappears in Second Inning
Murray Cannot Account For Whereabouts.
-Jason Stark
UFO TODAY
In what investigators and team officials are calling a freak natural occurence, Southpaw right center fielder Rio Murray disappeared momentarily in the second inning of last Thursday's 6-4 win over the Alibi Chieftans. After the game, Murray could not say where he was while pointing to a pin-prick sized puncture wound that had mysteriously appeared in the center of his forehead. Both Leftie's right fielder Roger Smith and left center fielder Justin Marano were as baffled as everyone else. "I looked over and he was there, and then he wasn't" said Smith, "it was like he just vanished into thin air." "He was gone baby, wierd." added Marano.
The strange play occured when a Chieftan player hit what everyone assumed was a can of corn to right center. Southpaw second basemen Dan Sagrin said "I went out to get in position for the cut-off and the ball just dropped in and Rio was no where to be found." The hit led to a run and according to eyewitnesses, just as quickly as he was gone, Murray then reappeared, slightly dazed, and threw the ball in to the infield. "I don't know, I don't know." said Murray, refusing medical treatment. Southpaw manager, Patty "Dooks" Fondiller, quite noticably aggravated, declined comment.

Roff Alerts Team To Sceduling Error
Peter Gammons - Boston Herald.com
Leftie's Lefty Left Fielder Outs Clerical Error, Averts Disaster.
In a single act of acute awareness and unusual bravado, Southpaw Left Fielder, Matthew Roff, saw something and said something this Wednesday alerting team officials to a clerical scheduling error, averting potential disaster. Upon waking Wednesday morning Roff checked the Southpaw Softball blog and noticed that the schedule read Thursday the 24th instead of the 25th and immediately sent a text message at 9:13 am to alert manager Patty "Dooks" Fondiller.
"Is our game today or tom. Blog says thursday but gives todays date" read the text. Fondiller picked up the missive at 2:36 in the afternoon and called back Roff to let him know he would check the schedule. Team officials cited Roff's heroism pointing out that they may have had the team's players showing up at the game on Thursday evening thinking that the date was the 24th and not the 25th. "That would be bad." said one source on condition of anonymity. Reached by phone for comment, Southpaw's manager, Fondiller, simply began cursing and hung up.
The error has since been corrected.

Southpaw Edges Plan B In Home Opener
Strong team defensive effort secures the win.
A solid pitching performance by starter Pat Fondiller backed by
superb defense resulted in a 2-1 victory on opening day for team
Southpaw Thursday night. First Basemen Mikey Palms made a
few spectacular picks as Southpaw overcame a pair of very questionable
calls made by the umpiring crew in the top of the third inning, both on
one play. First, a Plan B player appeared to be out by a step at first base
and another tagged out after rounding too far off second base. The blown
calls led to the only Plan B run of the game when their next batter singled.
The two Southpaw runs came in the bottom of the second as rookie Dennis
Eschenberg and catcher Dominique singled consecutively driving in Ancelmo
"Sumo" Huggins and Gabe Philipson respectively. Lefty Matt Roff gets the
start in game 2 on Thursday May 8th.

Opening Game this Thursday, April 30th, 6PM
Allright,
Great practice today, it'll be nice to open the season
with at least a few swings, and having shagged a ball
or two. Thanks to all who showed up.
Game one is this Thursday at
Prospect Park field #7.
Below is a link to a map of Prospect Park and I can
tell you that it is near where we practiced today.
http://www.prospectpark.org/visit/interactive_map
Game time is 6PM sharp and we are opening as the
home team in game 1 versus Plan B.
I will be out there at 5 PM if anyone wants to show up
early, take a few swings and do a little infield practice.
Notes:
League fees are $40 per man and are due prior to game 1.
I will be setting the roster on game day based on who shows
up but I have a good idea of what I want it to be already so if
you can't make it let me know ahead of time.
I will be the starting pitcher for game 1 v. Plan B and Matt Roff
will be starting game 2 v. the Black Sox. If there are any other
guys who have experience pitching let me know, we could always
use a few extra. If you're not ABSOLUTELY sure that you can
throw strikes consistently, do not volunteer, there's nothing worse
than a softball pitcher who walks lots of batters.
Please respect the starting line-up decisions I will be basing the
opening lineup on what I saw today. We can ALL hit, but pitching
and defense is what will bring us the cup. I will be fielding the best
possible defensive line-up until the games are well in hand.
